Seminario “The universe in a box” – Stefano Borgani

Lunedì 17 Febbraio 2025 alle ore 15:00 presso l’aula De Tollis (Aule E) il Prof. Stefano Borgani (Università di Trieste) terrà un seminario dal titolo “The Universe in a Box: Applications of High-Performance Computing in Cosmology“.
Il seminario, di cui si riporta abstract e locandina nel seguito, è rivolto a tutti gli studenti, post-docs, ricercatori e docenti interessati.

Abstract: Modern cosmological simulations are invaluable tools to capture the complexity of cosmic structure formation, from the scale of single galaxies to the largest scales probed by cosmological experiments. Such simulations are based on the use of advanced codes that optimally exploit the most advanced infrastructures for high performance computing. In my colloquium I will introduce cosmological simulations and the pivotal role that they have in the interpretation of the observational data from the most advanced telescopes and from the undergoing and forthcoming cosmological experiments aimed at unveiling the nature of dark matter and dark energy.

The lecturer: Stefano Borgani is full professor at the University of Trieste since 2011. Graduated in Physics at the University of Perugia in 1988, he obtained the Master in Astrophysics in 1990 and the PhD in Astronomy in 1992 at SISSA, in Trieste. He was researcher at INFN in Perugia from 1991 to 2002 and then associate professor at the University of Trieste. His researches concern the cosmological structure formation, also with the use of advanced numerical simulations, and the exploitation of large cosmological surveys. He is member of the Euclid Consortium and of the PNRR National Center for HPC, Big Data and Quantum Computing.
